Match Report

Report

Starting with Arthur (goal), Ollie and Joe G (defence), Theo and Eddie (midfield/strikers) we played our second game of the 2017-18 season, away at Yalding & Laddingford.

The first few minutes of the game were close with neither team showing any strong chances on goal.  Some good positional play by the Ditton players were early positive early signs and a good attacking run forward from Eddie was a great demonstration of skill.  Unfortunately a poor clearance from a defensive position saw us go behind.  With Ditton rocked back, and Yalding on the front foot, there then followed some strong attacking play which was too good for the Ditton players and we went another couple of goals behind.  Never disheartened the players stuck with it during the first period of play.

Some changes saw Max join Ollie in defence and Joe T and Evan take the midfield/striker positions.  This period of play saw some open attacking play from both teams, with Evan making some strong dribbling runs with the ball for Ditton.  Yalding's strength in attack though continued and they managed to score another couple of goals despite some passionate defending from Ditton.

Continuing to give all players equal time on pitch saw further changes in the next and final periods of play, which included Alfie having time on the pitch.  The Ditton team lost some focus and concentration but continued to play well.  Some flashes of brilliant forward play were put together by Ditton.  One of these saw Ollie run almost the full length of the pitch from a defensive position to score for Ditton!  The final scoreline was a loss but this wasn't a fair reflection on how, collectively, the team continued to play as a group and support one another.

Despite two losses at the start the season the team spirit remains strong and the boys continue to develop, improve and enjoy their football.

For a very strong and determined effort upfront, Evan was a well deserved man of the match.
