Report

Our second home game of the season took place on a warm Saturday morning on 23 September, when we played Range Rovers at home.

Starting with Arthur in goal, Max and Alfie in midfield/defence, and Theo and Eddie as strikers the team quickly got into their stride showing a much improved display of passing and movement than the last couple of weeks.  Ditton applied early pressure upfront and this was rewarded with our first goal for Eddie.  The attacks on the Range Rovers goal continued and a late challenge in the box on Eddie, who was pushing forward with a strong run, was rewarded with a penalty - which was strongly converted.  With spirits and confidence lifted by these early goals Ditton continued to apply pressure and this was rewarded with a further strong finish by Eddie.

For the second period of play Ollie and Joe G started in defence/midfield and Evan and Eddie played up front.

A great attacking throw-in early in this period of play saw Eddie have another run on goal – alas on this occasion he shot high over the bar – more a conversion than a shot on goal!  The Ditton goal and defence are rarely troubled and Ditton continue to push forward.  A free kick sees another goal for Ditton.  Some great linking play and passing between Eddie and Evan sees a lovely run on the right wing by Evan, which is followed up by a great cross and finish close to goal.  The pressure continues and another attacking period sees Evan turn and shoot when under pressure in the box – rewarded by another goal.  The positive play, passing and great communication between the players sees some more goals with Eddie and Evan both continuing to get on the score sheet.

The third period of play sees Max and Alfie back on, along with Theo and Evan.  A great forward pass by Theo sees a strong shot from Evan which is well saved by the Range Rovers keeper.  Undeterred Evan continues to apply pressure and is soon rewarded with another goal.  Soon after a strong powerful shot from Max is well saved by the Range Rovers keeper but Evan is quick to follow up on the parried save.

In the final period of play Ditton continue to move, pass and play well.  The attacking football continues and the players are rewarded with further goals for both Evan and Eddie.

The strong win was great, but the most positive aspect of the game was the fantastic way the players kept shape, talked to one another and passed.  A huge step up for the team and a thoroughly deserved win which will hopefully see the team grow in confidence.

Eddie was man of the match for his strong attacking runs, passing and prolific goal scoring
