The first match for the new mens team started with a home match against Walnut Wanderers, a local team from Maidstone.
Arriving at our home ground, Ditton Community Centre, was a determined Mens team for the home side.
The match started well, with the walnuts looking like a strong side and good competition. The mens were determined not to let them get the better of them and fought hard for the first half hour. A challenge by Kieran followed by a minor tussle led to a booking for both teams.
Both teams looked strong as the match continued, until a late challenge from Luke P conceded a penalty. Unfortunately, Walnuts’ striker stepped up to the mark and put one past our keeper, Huddy, who had been playing very well.
With Ditton 0-1 down, heads were dropping and unfortunately this led to another goal for the opposition taking us into the half time break at 0-2.
Second half started strong with Ditton looking the better team, both teams battling hard. Some great teamwork and with spirits raised, a great goal from new signing Jamie Milsom bringing Ditton back into the game at 1-2.
The battle continued, strong challenges and lots of contests going, the Walnuts had a lot of challenges with the ref but Ditton didn’t let this get the better of them. Another fine goal for Ditton from striker, Sean Cheshire took Ditton to 2-2 and into the game with 5 minutes to go.
Full time and a well deserved point for the newly established team!
Looking forward to next weeks game against Len Valley!
